Targets… Get them high in the sky…

I got to go to the gun range this past weekend and It was everything I could hope for. It had all the yuck and disappointment I could ask for covered by the joy of knowing it can only get better. If there’s one thing the military has taught me is… if you expect things to go according to plan you made your first mistake. See we had everything planned out to go just fine, mother nature had a different plan. She wanted to let us cool off after giving us a little 90 degree weather. But, she quickly wanted to dry us off and this continued for four days. Four long days we woke up at 4:00 in the morning and didn’t get back to our barracks till 11:00 at night just to do it all over again. I haven’t got the end results for what I qualified as but I’ll update later. Anyway we shoot two Tables 1 & 2. Table one consists of shooting from 200, 300 and 500 yards at different targets in different positions (sitting, kneeling, standing and prone). Table 2 is more realistic, we wear our tactical gear and shoot at multiple targets with designated areas on the body to aim for. Sounds like fun right? Well it is, it’s a blast.

The rain...

We had to run “The Pits” too. We are the ones who raise and lower the targets for the shooters, and we get to have rounds fly just feet over our heads… FUN.

"The Pits" aka "The Butts"

Hahaha and the rain brought out the wildlife. LOL

We had a pet, this frog would not try to get away at all. It would just sit there... we couldn't not keep it.

My "baby"...

No not the spoon either… My rifle, she is nameless but appreciated regardless.

This is how Marines pose...

Sitting at the 200 yard line...

Prone at the 500 yard firing line...

Just to give you guys a feel for how far that is… the black “dots” on the square targets in the background are roughly 20 in. x 40 in. and any little movement while shooting can make the round go off target by a couple feet.

The barracks...

And last but definitely not least, here is the room that 20 or so Marines got to call home for the weekend. The place to rest our heads and dream of success on the firing line…

NOTE: I need to learn how to make a slide show so that I don’t kill you guys with all these pics in a row.
